Mark your calendars, folks, because the Orpheum is about to offer you a once in a lifetime opportunity: David Byrne is coming to Madison on May 16.
Known for his distinctive singing voice and penchant for oversized suits, Byrne is best known as frontman for Talking Heads. From 1975-1991 (and in one-off reunions in 1996 and 2002), Byrne fronted the New York art rock icons, helping to create such hits as “Burning Down the House,” “Psycho Killer” and, yes, “Once in a Lifetime.”
In the years since, Byrne embarked on a successful solo career that’s included collaborations with Brian Eno and St. Vincent, and won an Oscar in 1987 for his work on the score to Bernardo Bertolucci’s film The Last Emperor. Byrne is set to release American Utopia in March, his first album since his 2012 effort with St. Vincent.
Tickets for the Orpheum show go on sale this Friday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. A press release for the 80-date tour says Byrne will perform new songs “as well as classics from his solo career and his days with Talking Heads.”
