Tickets go on sale Friday for a couple of big names coming to town next year. 2019 may still be a few months away, but you’ll want to plan early for shows as big as these.
Mumford & Sons
Kohl Center, March 30
One of the most popular bands of the past decade, Mumford & Sons were at the head of a folk revival that’s still dominating indie music. But rather than stick to the stomps and claps, Marcus Mumford and his adult sons have been doing some experimenting on their most recent albums. 2015’s Wilder Mind was straight-up alternative rock, while this year’s Delta is a melting pot of electronica, jazz and even (confusingly) hip-hop. This might be worth checking out just to see whether Mumford has bars or nah. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m.
Greta Van Fleet
Breese Stevens Field, June 4
This young Michigan quartet is on an arena trajectory; Greta Van Fleet play a sold out show at The Sylvee tonight and this week are the first announced act for Breese next summer. They are very much a throwback to a bygone era, one where singers shrieked and pranced and guitar riffs sounded like they weighed 5,000 pounds. What I’m trying to say here is that Greta Van Fleet has a swagger that a lot of young rock bands don’t have. It’s sweltering rock for the summer sun. Tickets for this one will be available at noon.
