Here’s a new song from local indie punx Proud Parents, courtesy of Paste Magazine!
Comprised of members of The Hussy and Fire Heads, Proud Parents is a Madison band that recently signed to Dirtnap Records, a long-running punk label that recently relocated from its home in the Pacific Northwest to Madison. Their self-titled debut is due out on June 22, and in anticipation the band and Paste have gifted us with “Flavordust.”
Like The Ergs!, The Exploding Hearts, and dozens of Dirtnap bands before them, Proud Parents have an innate talent for crafting punky power-pop that pushes the genre’s constraints. But that’s not to say that “Flavordust” doesn’t fizz. Between the pogo-ring drums and yearning vocals, both provided by Heather Sawyer, “Flavordust” is pop punk without the cliches that can often bog down the genre. Forget Green Day — this is Guided By Voices with a sugar rush.
The band will embark on an 11-state, 13-date tour beginning July 7, including a hometown stop at Crystal Corner for their album release party on July 20.
