Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon is safer at home, and we got a surprise new song out of it.
Recorded at his April Base studio near Eau Claire, “PDLIF” (“please don’t live in fear”) is very much a continuation of the soulful, sample-heavy work he delivered on 2019’s i.i. It’s built around a sample of Alabaster dePlume’s 2012 instrumental “Visit Croatia” and stitched together with ethereal vocals. And it was completed Postal Service-style, by musicians isolated from one another.
“PDLIF” feat contributions from: @3TC3T3RA @beejburton @physlew Joseph K Rainey, Sr. @jimestack @kacyhill @EliTeplin Devin Hoffman @mooseofrob @a_deplume @HM_Mastering It proves that, though apart, we’re never alone; the importance of collaboration/community is as strong as ever.

In short: it’s great, folks. You want to listen to it repeatedly — which it turns out is a very good thing, and you can do so below. 100% of the streaming proceeds for “PDLIF” will go to Direct Relief, a humanitarian organization that supports health care workers on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bon Iver recently issued a re-release of Blood Bank, their 2009 EP, on March 27.
