Many of us have had our morning routines thrown into chaos the last couple months, but there are still plenty of options to safely get your caffeine fix while supporting local businesses. A cup of joe might be a necessary partner in handling your kids, or it brings a moment of joy to an otherwise stressful work day. Even if you take your coffee with a shot of Jamison, we’re not here to judge. Whatever coffee means to you, shops around Madison are offering creative ways to continue to indulge in your must-have morning (or let’s be honest: anytime) beverage.
Ancora Coffee
Locations on King Street and University Avenue
Ancora has been keeping Madison caffeinated for more than 20 years and a pandemic wasn’t going to stop them. They currently offer curbside pick-up or delivery from both of their cafe locations. You can order from the typical array of hot, iced and seasonal drinks, or opt to supply your craving for the entire week by picking up a half-gallon of your favorite latte or cold brew. While you’re at it, you can also add a bag of their whole beans to your order.
Grace Coffee
Locations on State Street and East Washington Avenue
While they’re relative newcomers to Madison’s coffee scene, Grace Coffee Co. has garnered a lot of love in a short amount of time. And it’s not just because the city has fallen for resident shop pups Pablo and Diego, though they surely help. Currently offering delivery and curbside pick-up, Grace also recently launched a subscription service. You can pick your drink — latte (including matcha) or cold brew — and how often you want to receive your 64 oz. treasure. Very little work but a lot of the enjoyment. For the rowdy crowd, they also offer pick-up of Irish cold brew kits. A third location, in Sun Prairie, is coming soon.
Colectivo Coffee
Pickup location on Monroe Street
In what can feel like very dark times, let the bright colors of Colectivo bring some comfort. Their “CollecDepot” service provides a contact-free cafe and limited grocery pick-up via their Monroe Street location. Order ahead through the Colectivo app to snag any of your usual favorites along with coffee by the pound and assorted pantry staples.
Cargo Coffee
Locations on South Park Street and East Washington Avenue
If staying in the comfort of your car is more your style, swing by the drive-thru at either location to get a quick fix. Any chai-lover should grab a bottle of Cargo’s microbrewed sattwa chai.
MOKA
Locations on East Washington Avenue, University Avenue and Mineral Point Road
Speaking of drive-thrus: MOKA’s East Wash location is one of Madison’s most loved options. It’s rare to go past and not see a line, but it’s well worth the wait. We might still be limited in how we can celebrate the arrival of spring, but let one of their seasonal drinks — like a grasshopper white mocha — serve as a small celebration.
Kickapoo Coffee
Online only currently
If you’d rather brew at home, consider buying your beans from Kickapoo Coffee via either a one-off purchase or regular subscription. For the next three weeks, they’re offering a 15% discount on all kilo and 5-pound bags of their Organic Driftless home blend to keep us caffeinated at home. This is the perfect time to fall in love with Kickapoo, as they’ll be opening a new location on the Capitol Square soon. We’re looking forward to a time in the future when we can return to feeding our coffee habits at a coffee shop.
